What does JKP Lisje control within Novi Sad?
The municipal decision entrusts JKP Lisje with the City Cemetery, the municipal mortuary and a detailed list of other burial grounds. An international arrival must therefore be matched to the particular site. A postal address in the city does not by itself show which office holds the grave record or can accept the deceased.
Lisje's contact centre may direct a notification to the relevant service, but it does not carry out the consular procedure. The sprovodnica concerns entry into Serbia; the local operator controls what happens after arrival. Both parts should be ready before relatives treat a proposed funeral time as final.
Which evidence is used to book a burial?
The city rules link burial registration to an official death record. Where the death occurred abroad, the foreign civil-status document and sprovodnica supplement the information required locally. The cemetery service then checks the plot, proposed time and method of reception. A telephone discussion can prepare the file but does not conclude the booking.
An existing plot requires its registered holder; a new place is assessed separately before the reception point can be fixed.
Which body confirms each part of the file?
Entry permission, registration of death and the local grave record are separate forms of evidence. The following allocation prevents one paper being described as a substitute for the others. An official investigation or other exceptional circumstance may create an additional requirement determined by the competent authority.
| Document or detail | Confirming body | Role in local reception |
|---|---|---|
| Sprovodnica | competent Serbian mission | provides the basis for international entry |
| Foreign death record | civil authority where the death was registered | establishes identity and death |
| Plot and user details | JKP Lisje or the actual cemetery operator | connects the case to the correct grave file |
| Receiving contact and time | local cemetery office or institution | defines the final handover arrangement |
When is the City Cemetery mortuary used?
The municipal mortuary may serve as the agreed reception point when arrival precedes the funeral or when JKP Lisje has designated it for handover. Delivery to another location is possible only after the exact place and time have been agreed and a responsible person has confirmed acceptance. These arrangements should be settled before transport begins.
Fenjer has access to cold storage in Novi Sad, although its use depends on the individual plan. Temporary care and a burial booking remain separate decisions. The family should receive one clear address for initial reception and another for burial whenever those two locations differ.
Does Novi Sad always mean the central City Cemetery?
No. The city decision lists burial grounds across Petrovaradin, Sremska Kamenica and several surrounding settlements. Individual sites keep their own identifiable records, while a religious cemetery may involve a different responsible body. The nearest large-city name is therefore not a reliable replacement for the actual destination.
The exact cemetery determines who verifies the plot and accepts the papers, so broad geographic shorthand is avoided.
What information should be supplied at the outset?
Initial checking requires the foreign institution, the deceased's passport details, the status of the death certificate, the full cemetery name and a telephone number for the person arranging the funeral. We respond within 10 minutes with the next official or local point that must be resolved.
Arrival within 48 hours is planned only for a procedurally clear case, after foreign release and local acceptance. A post-mortem examination, investigation or official restriction delays the start. Published cemetery opening hours must not be interpreted as a reserved slot for an international arrival.
Process for this case
- Step 1 of 4
Identify the cemetery system
Use the complete site name to establish whether Lisje or another operator holds the record.
- Step 2 of 4
Match civil-status documents
The foreign death record and sprovodnica must identify the same person and destination.
- Step 3 of 4
Check the plot and booking
The responsible service confirms grave use, chapel arrangements and an available time.
- Step 4 of 4
Deliver to the agreed point
Reception takes place at the mortuary or another location accepted in advance.

Frequently asked questions
Does JKP Lisje manage only the City Cemetery?
No. The municipal decision assigns it a number of other named burial grounds across the city area.
Can the funeral be booked before the papers are issued?
A provisional enquiry may be made, but final confirmation depends on documents and the plot record.
What purpose does the municipal mortuary serve?
It may receive the deceased when arrival does not lead directly into the booked burial arrangements.
Does a sprovodnica replace the foreign death certificate?
No. The documents serve different functions and are used together according to the authorities' requirements.
When can the 48-hour arrival plan apply?
It applies after release abroad has been authorised and a competent local service has confirmed reception.
