Why are the sprovodnica and burial booking separate?
The sprovodnica determines whether the deceased may be brought into Bosnia and Herzegovina. The cemetery booking answers a different question: where and when burial may occur in Sarajevo. A consular document does not reserve a grave, and a cemetery confirmation cannot replace international transport permission.
Both documentary chains should identify the same person and destination. The application therefore names the actual cemetery and responsible administration rather than Sarajevo alone. That lets the diplomatic mission assess the intended place of burial while the local office prepares reception through its own register.
What does KJKP Pokop do in the local process?
KJKP Pokop publishes the documents and steps used for burial at the sites it administers. Its work includes checking an existing grave record, collecting required details and arranging an appointment. The company operates within the cantonal framework, but it is not the state border or consular authority.
Vlakovo is an important part of this network, yet it is not the automatic destination for every arrival in Sarajevo. A family may hold rights at another cemetery. Only the register and the administrator's confirmation establish the site that will accept both the deceased and the original papers.
How is an available burial place demonstrated?
The published procedure calls for local confirmation that a grave has been secured. For an existing family plot, the administrator checks the file and the person entitled to act. A new allocation follows different rules. A family announcement or private conversation is not equivalent to confirmation from the office controlling the cemetery register.
Evidence should be in place before the final appointment is treated as fixed. Otherwise, the international record may be complete while Sarajevo has no confirmed reception point. That gap is resolved through the administrator of the actual burial ground, not by inserting a general city address.
Which authority uses each document?
The records belong to different levels of responsibility. This is particularly visible in Sarajevo, where state, cantonal and operational decisions may follow one another. The table describes an ordinary case and avoids assigning a document a purpose that it does not legally or practically perform.
| Document or detail | Confirming body | Role at reception |
|---|---|---|
| Sprovodnica | competent diplomatic or consular mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina | permits international transport to the stated destination |
| Foreign death certificate | registry responsible where death was recorded | supplies the official identity and civil-status entry |
| Proof of burial place | KJKP Pokop or the actual cemetery administrator | shows that a place for burial has been secured |
| Appointment and recipient | cemetery office for the chosen site | organises reception and the later burial |
What changes when KJKP Pokop does not manage the cemetery?
The Sarajevo area contains burial grounds that do not necessarily belong to the KJKP Pokop network. The church, religious community, municipality or other body responsible for that site then becomes the local contact. A Pokop form cannot be assumed to apply where another organisation maintains the burial register.
The cantonal regulation does not turn separate operators into one reception office. The official cemetery name, municipality, administrator and reachable recipient are recorded before transport. Those details determine where original documents are delivered and who records acceptance locally.
Why does the authority at the place of death still control departure?
Sarajevo can prepare reception but cannot issue a foreign release. Depending on the country, the outward document may be called a Leichenpass or passaporto mortuario. Application of an international agreement is checked against the states actually involved; it is not inferred from the direction of travel or membership of the European Union.
An investigation can delay release abroad. The local funeral booking therefore becomes dependable only when the outward procedure, sprovodnica and grave confirmation align. A preferred date chosen by relatives cannot alter a decision made by the public authority controlling release at the place of death.
What information is required before departure for Sarajevo?
The review records the foreign jurisdiction, facility, passport details and release status, then adds the exact cemetery and person acting there. A Pokop case benefits from its grave or file reference; another operator requires its own contact details. We provide the first response within 10 minutes.
We handle routine documentation without a separate fee. Arrival within 48 hours is planned for a procedurally clear case after release. If local confirmation is absent, the case is not completed with an assumed address. The responsible body is established first from official and operator sources. Fees charged by authorities or other institutions are paid according to their actual invoice.

Frequently asked questions
Is Vlakovo compulsory for an international Sarajevo case?
No. The confirmed burial place and the administrator maintaining its register determine the destination.
Does the sprovodnica reserve a funeral appointment?
No. It governs international transport; the competent cemetery office confirms the appointment separately.
Who confirms a grave within the Pokop network?
KJKP Pokop checks the file for burial grounds administered by that company.
Is the cantonal regulation a foreign export permit?
No. It governs local funeral activity and cannot replace a decision by the country where the death occurred.
Who accepts the documents at another Sarajevo cemetery?
The actual administrator names the person or office responsible for reception at that site.
