Why the actual Frankfurt registration district matters
The Frankfurt registry recording the death issues the Leichenpass. Mitte and Höchst cover different registration districts. A later transfer to another institution does not establish registry responsibility: identify the place of death and the office already handling registration.
Collection also depends on the institution’s release position. An outstanding official decision remains binding even when the family has begun planning the funeral.
Connecting German records with the BiH application
The German Foreign Office assigns Hessen to the BiH consulate in Frankfurt. Its checklist covers identity, an international death certificate, Leichenpass, medical evidence and grave confirmation. Prior consent concerns specified exceptional cases, including exhumation and foreign nationality. Regional forms for those cases are not universal requirements.
| Document | Issuer | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Leichenpass | Responsible German registry office | Permission for international transport |
| International death certificate | Civil register | Evidence of the registered death |
| Sprovodnica | Responsible BiH mission | Transfer for burial in Bosnia and Herzegovina |
Planning handover at a specific Sarajevo location
KJKP Pokop treats Sarajevo funeral scheduling as a local agreement with the family. Give the cemetery or receiving institution and a contact who can confirm acceptance. A city name leaves the actual handover point unresolved.
Transport neither allocates a grave nor books the ceremony. Changed destinations require a further document check; the Germany–BiH page explains the broader national procedure.
Keeping the price tied to the named cities
The amount applies to Frankfurt–Sarajevo, not every address in Hessen or Sarajevo’s surroundings. Collection, equipment and additional preparation determine the final scope. Discuss the coffin and local funeral services separately before accepting a quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Should we provide both the death location and collection address?
Yes. They may differ, and the office registering the death determines responsibility for the Frankfurt Leichenpass.
Are the consulate’s exceptional-case forms needed for everyone?
No. Their use depends on the circumstances listed by that mission and, where relevant, the area of burial.
Can the funeral date alone identify the Sarajevo receiver?
No. We also need the institution or cemetery and a contact who can confirm the reception arrangements.
Is the same figure guaranteed for the whole of Hessen?
The confirmed starting price belongs to Frankfurt and Sarajevo. An alternative town or receiving location requires a fresh case assessment.
